Who Dares Wins

NZSAS Regimental Association

About us

Established in 1957, the New Zealand Special Air Service Regimental Association (The Assn), is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing a comprehensive array of programmes designed to support NZSAS operators, veterans and their families. We proudly stand as the foremost champions of essential care for these remarkable warriors, ensuring they remain at the peak of their abilities.

Our mission extends beyond their active service, assisting them in their transition to successful civilian careers, and offering steadfast support to their families at every step of their journey. In the unfortunate event that a member of the NZSAS community does not return home, we are there to provide crucial assistance.

Our purpose

The SAS Regimental Association was established with a clear set of purposes:

  • Support for NZSAS and its members: The Association's primary mission is to support the NZSAS and its members, ensuring their well-being and fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Promotion of SAS history: The Association actively encourages an interest in the history of the NZSAS, preserving its rich legacy.
  • Collaboration: The Association collaborates and liaises with kindred special forces and military organisations to share knowledge and best practices.

Our vision

  • Become the premier landing place for NZSAS members.
  • Provide exceptional member support and services.
  • Preserve our Regiment’s rich history.
  • Advocate effectively on behalf of our members.
  • Deepen our understanding of members well-being
(physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural).
  • Establish a resilient self-funding model.

Our achievements

Our programmes are structured under the guiding principles of Strength, Resilience, Health, Education, and Community, forming the very foundation of our unwavering commitment to this exceptional community. Our achievements lie in the ways we are able to direct support to our members. The support we provide is confidential. We pride ourselves on our ability to assist members directly or indirectly in a private and discreet manner. While our events and coffee groups foster camaraderie in a team environment, the additional support we provide is individual and sensitive to each person's requirements, an approach the Association holds to with utmost gravity.

Family support

The Assn has made significant strides in supporting our members and their whānau during tough times, providing confidential emotional and financial support. Through our collaborative network of support partners (particularly the NZSAS Trust), we've efficiently directed assistance where it's most needed. Our current priority lies in establishing the NZSAS Regimental Assn Resilience Centre, intended to swiftly assist families and create a communal space for our members to offer mutual support. This centre will be a comforting sanctuary, fostering peace and connection while operating as a care network, offering preventative and immediate aid as needed.

Educational support

The Assn helps members gain access to educational funding through the NZSAS Trust. Historically, The Assn has worked with the NZSAS Trust to provide educational support for members' families, such as providing access to Outward Bound courses for children and other educational pursuits.

Fundraising

The Association has raised funds to make donations to:

  • 22 SAS for the SAS Ascension Memorial
  • Pou Tiaki presented to the SAS. A Pou Tiaki is a carved post that stands guard and protects an area from physical and metaphysical harm. Following Māori tikanga, pou tiaki are on display to remind people that an area is protected, and they need to be aware of their own behaviour and mindful of the environment they’re entering.
  • Assist members in an individualised and confidential manner when the NZSAS Trust has been unable to help.
